JH Voted NCWTS Most Popular Driver

Story from NASCAR.com

The two Most Popular Drivers were absolutely suited for NASCAR's big awards.

Second-generation NASCAR mega-talents, both Chase Elliott (XFINITY Series) and John Hunter Nemechek (Camping World Truck Series) absolutely earned the distinction and the nod in Monday awards presentation.

Elliott, who will drive the Hendrick Motorsports No. 24 Chevy next year in the Sprint Cup Series -- replacing the retiring Jeff Gordon -- was typically low-key and humble about the whole NASCAR XFINITY and Camping World Truck Series awards evening.

But he was eager to get going in his Cup career after a championship and second place finish (2015) in the XFINITY Series. Earning the Most Popular Driver Award for the recent season must have felt very appropriate for the son of Bill Elliott, who took the Cup Series vote a record 16 times. Dale Earnhardt Jr. has won it the past 12 years.

"I think we have definitely a lot of work to do to catch Dale in that sense," a smiling Elliott said. "But I'm very appreciative of the support I've had, especially the past two years and I've noticed it. I don't think people realize how much that means to a driver when they see you wearing their T-shirt. It goes a long way for me. Seeing them do that means a lot."

Elliott conceded he and his father, a NASCAR Hall of Famer, haven't discussed this honor's impact even though he is touched to receive it.

"We really haven't talked about that," Elliott said. "Fortunately he (his dad) had a big following and some of those people are following me. Can't look past that. Dale has an obviously great following and I'm a Dale fan too."

Nemechek, 18, was equally as excited to be recognized on the Camping World Truck Series side. A second-generation racer who won his first major race this season, Nemechek was obviously moved by the honor.

"It definitely can't hurt to win the Most Popular Driver in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, " Nemechek said. "It's definitely an honor for me and my family, but more importantly, hopefully it'll help us gain some reputation on selling some sponsorship for the seasons tocome. Can't thank all of the supporters enough that voted, and all the friends and family as well."

Nemechek is the second family member to be honored with the award. His father, Joe Nemecheck -- a former XFINITY Series champion and four-time Cup winner.

"Yeah, he won I think in 1992 and '93, so it's awesome to be able to win an award that he's won," Nemechek said. "I beat him to something.

"I wish he wouldn't have won most popular so I could've beat him to that. We're very competitive, but to get my first truck win when he didn't was very special as well. He wants one bad."

With Elliott moving into the Cup series and Nemechek hoping to continue his rise in the NASCAR ranks in 2016.

"It definitely is special to hear how good you're doing with the equipment that you have," Nemechek said. "We utilize our resources to the absolute max that we possibly can. We try and get our trucks as good as we can. There's a lot of late nights and hard work put in with just a few people. Finding the funding to get a few more people and not have to work as late and getting some free time to work on some other projects could even make us better, but it was definitely a good year. Getting our first win and finishing in the top five so many times, all the hard work did pay off.

"We're still working on trying to find funding. Nothing is set in stone yet. It's all kind of up in the air right now, so still trying to find those possible partners to sit down, sign a deal with, hopefully for years to come."

Joe Nemechek will pilot the Riley's Brewing Co. Hard Hand Crafted Root Beer Chevrolet with NEMCO Motorsports, and Riley's Brewing Co. Hand Crafted Root Beer will adorn the side of the No. 8 Chevrolet driven by John Hunter Nemechek, debuting at the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) event at the Chicagoland Speedway on Friday, September 18.

“Being a fan of NASCAR, it was an honor for Riley’s Brewing Company to come together with the Nemechek father and son duo,” Daniel Riley, president of Riley’s Brewing Company, said. “Being a family business ourselves, it gives me a great pride to see values and competition passed down in the family-owned NEMCO Motorsports. “Riley's Brewing Company, Inc. is a family brewery and happy to be sponsoring a family team.”

Launched into full production this year, Riley's Brewing Co. Hard Hand Crafted Root Beer is a product of Madera, California.  Riley passed down his family’s beer making tradition by working tirelessly from his garage to craft beers. At 5% ABV, the sweet, and smooth finish is created by Riley’s grandfather’s original root beer recipe.

Riley said Joe Nemechek was a natural ambassador for the product because “Nemechek is one tough cookie. He is smooth when he needs to be, yet with that extra kick.”

Riley's Brewing Co. non-alcohol root beer logo will be display as an associate sponsor on the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series No. 8 Chevrolet of John Hunter Nemechek.

“Racing at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park is something I have been looking forward to making some right-turns. I feel like last year, my experience was a blast. This place is really fun, really fast, and it is hard to pass for track position.

“Track position is going to play a big role, but you have to get your Chevrolet to work here. It is not necessarily a technical track for the driver, but in order to be fast your NASCAR Camping World Truck Series entry need to turn, have positive front grip, and have traction off the corner. The key passing places, you have to remember those and you can’t get yourself in a bind – getting hung on the outside on any of these fast corners.”

John Hunter Nemechek, driver of the No. 8 SWM-NEMCO Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado for NEMCO Motorsports, finished 12th in the Careers for Veterans 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race on Saturday, August 15 at the Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn. JOHN HUNTER NEMECHEK QUOTE (ON BRISTOL MOTOR SPEEDWAY.):
“Coming to Bristol Motor Speedway for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race on Wednesday night is something I have definitely looked forward to for a while. This track suits my driving style – it is fast, it is fun, it is a driver’s track. He raced as high as sixth, but a pit road penalty upset his effort.

JOHN HUNTER NEMECHEK QUOTE (ON MICHIGAN INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY.):
“Going to Michigan International Speedway for the first time will be an interesting weekend for our NEMCO Motorsports team. It is the fastest track we go to with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, and I am really looking forward to getting on the track and drafting, and trying to get our No. 8 SWM-NEMCO Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado where I can hold it wide-open for a long run. I think that if we can accomplish that, our team will be quite fast and can compete up at the front.”

Nemechek Gets his Revenge on Indy with CRA Victory

Last July, John Hunter Nemechek left Indianapolis, Indiana's Lucas Oil Raceway disappointed with losing an ARCA/CRA Super Series Late Model event by mere inches to NASCAR superstar Kyle Busch.

Saturday, in his first appearance to Lucas OIl since that dramatic finish, Nemechek found redemption in the "Circle City."

The 18-year-old driver scored his first ARCA/CRA Super Series victory and third overall Late Model win of the season with a dominating performance in the Circle City 100.

"We came out here to win and that's what we did," Nemechek said following his victory.  "I can't thank D.A.B. Constructors, Rocky Ridge Trucks and everyone that helps on this team enough."

Nemechek set fast time for the 100-lap feature, but started 10th following an invert.  He wasted little time to get back to the front.  He rode patiently in second for several laps in the early stages before making his move around early leader Grant Quinlan on lap 55 and never looked back.

Even late-race restarts, which put some of the top Super Late Model talents in the country at his door and bumper, could not deter Nemechek's No. 8 from victory lane.

"I can't give enough to my dad (NASCAR veteran Joe Nemechek) who put this car together in about a week to come up here.  It shows what our team can do and I can't thank everyone enough."

Nemechek will be back behind the wheel of his No. 8 Super Late Model on August 22 when he competes in the Lee Fields Memorial 100 at Mobile International Speedway in Alabama.  First things first, he will compete in his No. 8 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series entry in the August 1 event at Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania.

Starting 13th due to the 31-truck field being set by owner's points, per the NASCAR Rule Book, Nemechek quickly advanced into the top five, and even lead a lap (Lap 47) around the asphalt oval. He finished the 225-mile event in the 11th place.

JOHN HUNTER NEMECHEK QUOTE (ON ELDORA SPEEDWAY.):
“I am looking forward to returning to the Eldora Speedway during the 2015 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season, after a sixth place run in the 2014 1-800-CarCash Mud Summer Classic. It was a really fun race last year, where I started mid-pack and got to drive to the front. I feel like our NEMCO Motorsports team had a great truck, and this year we are even more prepared, and our set-up is going to be even better than it was last year. We have quite a few new people in our garage that have a role of making our No. 8 Chevrolet better. Here at Eldora, the dirt is fun, something different – we’ll get to slide around a bit. It is definitely something different than racing asphalt every week, and hopefully we can go out there and end up with a win.”

Kentucky Speedway Rewind … Joe Nemechek, driver of the No. 8 Chevrolet Silverado for NEMCO Motorsports, battled various handling issues throughout the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series UNOH 225 on June 26, 2014 at the Kentucky Speedway but dug deep for a strong rally back into a 14th-place finish. He qualified in the 18th position for the 150-lap event. Nemechek was one of three drivers entered for all three events for the Kentucky Speedway weekend, including the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, the XFINITY Series and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

Intermediate Debut … John Hunter Nemechek, just 29 days after his 18th birthday, is now eligible to race on his first 1.5-mile (intermediate) track. Prior to June 11, Nemechek was restricted to running on tracks 1.25-miles or less and the road course.

In the Rearview Mirror: Iowa Speedway ... John Hunter Nemechek, driver of the No. 8 MeetBall Chevrolet Silverado for NEMCO Motorsports, finished 23rd on June 19 in the American Ethanol 200 presented by Enogen NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event at the Iowa Speedway. Nemechek, son of “Front Row Joe” Nemechek, started the 200-lap event on the front row in a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series career-best qualifying effort of second. The 18-year old maintained a top five running position during most of the event. Nemechek was working through lapped traffic in eighth-position on Lap 157, and unaware of another competitor to his outside, Nemechek moved up the track, causing contact between the two, resulting in the race’s final yellow flag. Suffering severe damage from the incident, the No. 8 NEMCO Motorsports team went to the garage unable to make repairs to the Chevrolet.

JOHN HUNTER NEMECHEK QUOTE (ON KENTUCKY SPEEDWAY.):
“Going to Kentucky Speedway is going to be a very eventful NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race. It will be my first 1.5-mile (intermediate) track start. I am really looking forward to getting on some of these bigger and faster tracks, and I anticipate having to learn what the aerodynamics does to our Chevrolet Silverado during passing, like when you are trying to pass from the inside. I have learned a little bit from earlier short-track races, but it is a different ball game at the 1.5-mile tracks. I am looking forward to going there and getting my first start at the Kentucky Speedway. Hopefully, we can seal the deal.”

Nemechek Leaves Missouri With Green Jacket & Big Check

John Hunter Nemechek is a big money race winner, and he proved that once again on Independence Day at I-44 Speedway in Missouri when he took home the green jacket and the $8,000 check in the Mercy Masters of the Pros 144.

Nemechek was fast all weekend, and he backed that up with a second-place effort in qualifying.  He started eighth after the invert and quickly made his way through the field.

He got to second place behind leader Sterling Marlin on lap 40 and just waited for an opportunity to take the lead.

That chance came when a caution came out on lap 73.  On the ensuing restart Nemechek stalked Marlin before finally taking the lead on lap 94.

“We knew we had to be patient, but at the same time we needed to grab spots whenever we could,” said Nemechek.  "We just needed to race smart.  It was a bit of a small crew.  We made the decision to come out and run this pretty late.  So it was just three guys and myself this weekend. ”

While Nemechek can now add this race to his list of big wins along with the Snowball Derby and All American 400, there's still a few races left he needs to cross off.

"There’s still a couple big races coming up this fall we want to win," Nemechek said.  "Winchester [400].  Snowflake [100] and the Snowball again.  And grab a Truck win too."

Nemechek will have a chance to grab that Truck win on Thursday, July 9 when the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series takes on the Kentucky Motor Speedway.
