Not only did Nemechek make his first start at a 1.5-mile track, but he also hopped into the No. 8 NEMCO Motorsports Chevrolet with no practice time due to inclement weather prior to the race. Starting 13th due to the 31-truck field being set by owner's points, per the NASCAR Rule Book, Nemechek quickly advanced into the top five, and even lead a lap (Lap 47) around the asphalt oval. He finished the 225-mile event in the 11th place.
JOHN HUNTER NEMECHEK QUOTE (ON ELDORA SPEEDWAY.):
“I am looking forward to returning to the Eldora Speedway during the 2015 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season, after a sixth place run in the 2014 1-800-CarCash Mud Summer Classic. It was a really fun race last year, where I started mid-pack and got to drive to the front. I feel like our NEMCO Motorsports team had a great truck, and this year we are even more prepared, and our set-up is going to be even better than it was last year. We have quite a few new people in our garage that have a role of making our No. 8 Chevrolet better. Here at Eldora, the dirt is fun, something different – we’ll get to slide around a bit. It is definitely something different than racing asphalt every week, and hopefully we can go out there and end up with a win.”

Kentucky Speedway Rewind … Joe Nemechek, driver of the No. 8 Chevrolet Silverado for NEMCO Motorsports, battled various handling issues throughout the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series UNOH 225 on June 26, 2014 at the Kentucky Speedway but dug deep for a strong rally back into a 14th-place finish. He qualified in the 18th position for the 150-lap event. Intermediate Debut … John Hunter Nemechek, just 29 days after his 18th birthday, is now eligible to race on his first 1.5-mile (intermediate) track. Prior to June 11, Nemechek was restricted to running on tracks 1.25-miles or less and the road course.
Mercy Masters of the Pros 144 … On Saturday, July 4, John Hunter Nemechek slipped on the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Green Jacket in victory lane after claiming the checkered flag at the Mercy Masters of the Pros 144 at the Lebanon (Missouri) I-44 Speedway.
In the Rearview Mirror: Iowa Speedway ... John Hunter Nemechek, driver of the No. 8 MeetBall Chevrolet Silverado for NEMCO Motorsports, finished 23rd on June 19 in the American Ethanol 200 presented by Enogen NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event at the Iowa Speedway. Nemechek, son of “Front Row Joe” Nemechek, started the 200-lap event on the front row in a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series career-best qualifying effort of second. The 18-year old maintained a top five running position during most of the event. Nemechek was working through lapped traffic in eighth-position on Lap 157, and unaware of another competitor to his outside, Nemechek moved up the track, causing contact between the two, resulting in the race’s final yellow flag. Suffering severe damage from the incident, the No. 8 NEMCO Motorsports team went to the garage unable to make repairs to the Chevrolet.
JOHN HUNTER NEMECHEK QUOTE (ON KENTUCKY SPEEDWAY.):
“Going to Kentucky Speedway is going to be a very eventful NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race. It will be my first 1.5-mile (intermediate) track start. I am really looking forward to getting on some of these bigger and faster tracks, and I anticipate having to learn what the aerodynamics does to our Chevrolet Silverado during passing, like when you are trying to pass from the inside. I have learned a little bit from earlier short-track races, but it is a different ball game at the 1.5-mile tracks. I am looking forward to going there and getting my first start at the Kentucky Speedway. Hopefully, we can seal the deal.”
Nemechek Leaves Missouri With Green Jacket & Big Check
John Hunter Nemechek is a big money race winner, and he proved that once again on Independence Day at I-44 Speedway in Missouri when he took home the green jacket and the $8,000 check in the Mercy Masters of the Pros 144.
Nemechek was fast all weekend, and he backed that up with a second-place effort in qualifying. He started eighth after the invert and quickly made his way through the field.
He got to second place behind leader Sterling Marlin on lap 40 and just waited for an opportunity to take the lead.
That chance came when a caution came out on lap 73. On the ensuing restart Nemechek stalked Marlin before finally taking the lead on lap 94.
“We knew we had to be patient, but at the same time we needed to grab spots whenever we could,” said Nemechek. "We just needed to race smart. It was a bit of a small crew. We made the decision to come out and run this pretty late. So it was just three guys and myself this weekend. ”
While Nemechek can now add this race to his list of big wins along with the Snowball Derby and All American 400, there's still a few races left he needs to cross off.
"There’s still a couple big races coming up this fall we want to win," Nemechek said. "Winchester [400]. Snowflake [100] and the Snowball again. And grab a Truck win too."
Nemechek will have a chance to grab that Truck win on Thursday, July 9 when the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series takes on the Kentucky Motor Speedway.

JOHN HUNTER NEMECHEK QUOTE (ON IOWA SPEEDWAY.):
“We are going into this weekend at Iowa Speedway with some momentum from finishing fourth at Gateway Motorsports Park – a career-best finish. And at the Berlin Raceway on Tuesday, we had a great finish in finishing third while battling for second position.
“Definitely our NEMCO Motorsports guys have been working hard. The dedication shows and hopefully our hard work can pay-off on Friday. Iowa (Speedway) is a fun place. You have to have your truck right or you cannot go. Hopefully we can get it dialed-in during practice.”
Nemechek Battles Hard for Podium Finish at Berlin
The Battle at Berlin 251 wasn't just a cleverly-named Super Late Model race that John Hunter Nemechek competed in Tuesday night. Calling it a battle was actually quite telling for how hard the young NASCAR Camping World Truck Series rookie competitor had to work throughout the 251 grueling laps around the 4/10-mile Michigan oval
Nemechek started his No. 8 Durobyte Chevy Super Late Model from the sixth position, but almost instantly had to wrestle his racecar around Berlin Raceway. A tight condition caused Nemechek to fight to keep his place among the leaders in the first half of the race before pit stops could be made to adjust the car.
Through some clever pit strategy and a hard-working attitude between both driver and the NEMCO Motorsports pit crew, Nemechek's car was able to improve throughout the race. Nemechek found himself in position to win in the closing stages as he battled hard inside the podium positions before finishing an impressive third.
"It was a good day for us considering the way it started," said Nemechek following Tuesday's race. "At the start of the race, I was way too tight. I couldn't rotate the center, couldn't get off the corner. All it would do is push. We decided to pit early and see what we can come up with. Dad and I talked about it and he made some great calls on the radio trying to get us some track position as well as stay on top of the tire situation."
With the help of his NASCAR race-winning dad Joe atop the pit box helping John Hunter throughout the Battle at Berlin, the No. 8 car was right in the thick of the heavy battle for the lead in crunch time. Late in the race, Nemechek diced his way through several three-wide situations en route to the strong finish.
Still, even having finished an impressive third, Nemechek was left wondering what could have been if circumstances late in the race had played out differently.
"I can't thank my guys enough for their hard work," added Nemechek. "I wish we could've had those sticker right-side tires that we had left in the pits. We actually put our first set back on that had 70 laps on them around lap 170. It was definitely a little more difficult to pass with those tires, but we maintained. Who knows what would've happened with our Durobyte Chevy. We put all of our time and effort into this race. We started the weekend rough, but we finished strong."
Nemechek will be back behind the wheel of his NASCAR Camping World Truck series ride on June 19 as he competes at Iowa Speedway with his NEMCO Motorsports No. 8.
Nemecheck Ready for a Berlin Super Late Model Battle
Even as John Hunter Nemechek began a new chapter in his racing career last Saturday in his first race as a full-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver, the rising star is still eager to check off a few more items on his short track accomplishments wish list.
Nemechek, the winner of such prestigious events as the Snowball Derby and All American 400, will make the trip up to Michigan this Tuesday to compete in the Battle at Berlin 251, a Super Late Model special event at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan.
Three dozen of the best SLM drivers in the country are scheduled to compete and Nemechek knows he will have to bring his A-game to take home another trophy.
"I hadn't seen the racetrack until we came up here a few weeks ago to test," said Nemechek upon arriving at the facility Monday. "It's definitely a tricky place, but it's not something we can't grasp. I've learned you have to have rear grip to get good drive off. The longer you run, the more you spin the rear tires. Keeping the car turning in the middle of the corner without hurting the drive off is going to be key.
The Battle at Berlin event will be 251 grueling laps around the Michigan bullring, but Nemechek has proven to be at his best in the extra-distance events.
"I definitely like these long races," added Nemechek. " I think it takes a little bit more of a driver to run all those laps and have the endurance to contend at the end. But I've grown up racing these long races, especially now with the Truck Series team. I like making pit stops too."
If he can indeed take the flag after 251 long laps on a warm June evening, Nemechek says that it will immediately go near the top of his racing résumé.
"This is something we've been looking forward to for a while. Ever since we got back from our test, we've been working on this car. Any big late model race you can win, you want to put your name in the history books."

John Hunter Named to NASCAR Next Class of 2015
(NASCAR Press Release)
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Five of the six NASCAR K&N Pro Series race winners in 2015 are 21 years old or younger. The championship points leaders in both the East and West are 17 and 16, respectively. And a 17-year-old just became the highest-finishing female in the 61-year history of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West.
It is fitting that as fans celebrate Jeff Gordon’s final year of competition, the ranks of NASCAR are filled with young drivers battling to one day fill that void. And on Tuesday, in a building that honors the sport’s history, NASCAR introduced some of those potential future stars of the sport.
During a ceremony at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, North Carolina, 12 drivers were formally announced as the newest NASCAR Next class, a group of up-and-coming talent that joins the industry program aimed at spotlighting NASCAR’s emerging stars.
"The NASCAR Next initiative spotlights the future of NASCAR, a collection of promising young talent who have shown the potential to one day reach the highest level of our sport," said Jill Gregory, NASCAR senior vice president for Industry Services. "Alumni – and current members – of the NASCAR Next program are achieving success at the national series level, and we are confident that this class will build upon that foundation of excellence for many seasons to come."
Now in its fifth season, the career résumé of NASCAR Next alumni is impressive, highlighted by Chase Elliott’s 2014 NASCAR XFINITY Series championship, Kyle Larson’s 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Sunoco Rookie of the Year Award, and Cole Custer’s September 2014 win at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, making him the youngest winner in NASCAR national series history.
Of the 28 drivers previously selected for the program, 21 have raced in one of NASCAR’s three national series (NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, NASCAR XFINITY Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series), and 11 are competing full-time there in 2015.
The team was selected through an evaluation process that included input from industry executives and veteran racers. Drivers must be between the ages of 15-25, have tangible and expressed goals in eventual competition in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and demonstrate the potential to realize that goal.
Each driver in NASCAR Next must be actively competing in a NASCAR touring or weekly series – NASCAR K&N Pro Series East or West, NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour, NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1, NASCAR Mexico Series, NASCAR Whelen Euro Series or NASCAR Whelen All-American Series. NASCAR XFINITY Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series competitors also are eligible provided they are not slated to run a full season in their respective series.
The NASCAR Next members for 2015-16 are:
- Rico Abreu (23, Rutherford, Calif., Twitter: @Rico_Abreu) – A 2014 USAC national champion and winner of the 2015 Chili Bowl, he has two top-10 finishes in three K&N Pro Series East starts, his first season racing in stock cars.
- Nicole Behar (17, Otis Orchards, Wash., @NicoleBehar33) – Tied the series record for highest finish by a female driver in just her fifth K&N West start with her second place mark at Irwindale Event Center, and has top-10 finishes in four of six West starts.
- Kyle Benjamin (17, Easley, S.C., @kylebenjamin71) – This Roush Fenway Racing developmental driver earned his first K&N Pro Series win at Bristol Motor Speedway, and is the youngest race winner in ARCA history.
- James Bickford (17, Napa, Calif., @Bickford_James) – The 2014 K&N West Sunoco Rookie of the Year earned his first win at State Line Speedway last season and finished fifth in the season championship.
- William Byron (17, Charlotte, N.C., @WilliamByron) – With a win at Greenville Pickens Speedway and three top 10 finishes, he sits atop the K&N Pro East season championship standings.
- Cole Custer (17, Ladera Ranch, Calif., @colecuster00) – He holds the records for youngest pole award and race winner in both the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and NASCAR’s touring series, and led late in the Truck race at Martinsville Speedway earlier this season.
- Ruben Garcia Jr. (19, Mexico City, Mex., @rubengarcia4) – The runner up in last season’s NASCAR Mexico Series season championship, he had one win and 10 top-10 finishes there while also competing in three NASCAR XFINITY Series races.
- Austin Hill (21, Winston, Ga., @_AustinHill) – Had three consecutive K&N East wins, in the final two races in 2014 and the 2015 season opener at New Smyrna Speedway where he captured his first pole award and led every lap.
- Jesse Little (18, Sherrill’s Ford, N.C., @jesselittle97) – Had a win at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, four top-five and 10 top-10 finishes in 2014 to finish fourth in the season standings. Won the pole at Bristol Motor Speedway in his 2015 K&N East debut.
- Dylan Lupton (21, Wilton, Calif., @LuptonDylan) – Was the 2014 K&N West championship runner up with a win at Kern County Speedway and registered 14 top-10 finishes; made his NASCAR XFINITY Series debut at Phoenix International Raceway in March.
